Windows 10 Test Mode watermark Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help. To me, even saying that it CAN range from two to four years is clearly saying that it’s a variable that they don’t have control over the only other way to read this is that they’re going to arbitrarily change the date on random devices, for no apparent reason.
That tells me that they’re either estimating the lifetime of the average PC or they’re talking about some type of under the hood change from their hardware partners as in, “between and , Intel is planning to manufacture hardware that requires a new driver model and Intel isn’t supporting the old models”.
Yeah, but the fact Microsoft won’t explain it is my problem. The sentence after that mentions it’s likely to be tied to consumer type, not device type, though. So, it might be that Enterprise versions get 4 years of support, Home gets 2 years, and Pro is a toss-up. I really can’t imagine it being that. I could maybe, potentially, possibly, if Satya was actually an idiot make it so Home only gets 2 years, but there’s not a chance the support lifetime for enterprise is 4 years.
Some large enterprise take 4 years just to upgrade. That being said, I can understand your reluctance and also wish Microsoft would come out and explain themselves. It’s just an issue I have with Microsoft’s total ignorance from the P. So much of stuff is answered poorly or incompletely. We were told over and over that Windoww 10 was to be a summer release. Now, we’re going to be waiting until November it seems for Windows 10 Mobile, after we started at “summer,” Xbox might not even make it in given the lack of updates , and HoloLens still has no real release windows or price–though Microsoft managed to pop off a message that the thing’s going to be aimed more at enterprise to start something they should have mentioned from the beginning.
It’s yours forever, they’ve bloody said, provided that you install before 29 July of next year Read the link I put above. They’ve said that support varies years, then you potentially have to pay for it. They refer to Windows revenue as deferred, not lost, meaning they intend to get their money sometime.
Windows 10 will be free forever, this is the last Windows, or at least that is what I read, Windows 10 will be supported without fees so you will get future updates without paying.
With that said, I believe you have to purchase the Pro version if you want to select which updates you want to install Windows update will be turned on automatically for non Pro versions. What this means is that you will probably be testing windows patches and upgrades before big enterprises decide to install patches wihch is not so cool, but at least it is free.
Read what I posted above. Your windows 8 is free if you bought your computer. It comes with it. If you update within a year from July 29th. Everything is free. Their deferred revenue stream is from when people buy and make new PCs after the first year and start buying windows 10 for them.
They’re not going to just start charging you for the ability to use your OS. Quit being paranoid. And yet their internal PowerPoint presentation contradicts that. Go to the link and DL the presentation and look at the annual breakdown in it.
Then don’t install it. Already said that’s how I’m proceeding, but thatnks for the pointless response that clearly was meant to show snark, rather than add anything intelligent or meaningful to the discussion I’m trying to have. There’s a lot of people who said one thing and do something else.
He just wants to remind you what you’ve said. As for the discussion, there’s no point because you’ve already decided this is the case no matter how other people explain to you. Claiming isn’t explaining. There isn’t evidence to the contrary since the evidence I presented was made, and most of these responses involve something in a vein like, “Microsoft wouldn’t do that,” or, “I think it means something else.
It’s that I’m wanting to hear something reliable and legitimate on the matter, and without it, I’m going to use factual matters of the past to assess the situation. No one’s explaining anything with words that are more than conjecture, if not outright assumption. I’m not going to agree with something that has no evidence, just because. I have read the this article.
I have a different interpretation of it. The revenue recognition has to be recognized over the lifetime of that PC or license, which is estimated to be years. After that years, Microsoft figures someone will buy a new PC. I have no idea how someone can take this and then extrapolate to “Microsoft to provide free upgrades to Windows 10 for 2 to 4 years”. Why did this guy never go to Microsoft for clarification? The other guy who debated with you already said why years. If Microsoft is intent to limit the years of update, Microsoft should flat out say a fixed number of years.
Anyway, please don’t upgrade to Windows 10 if you believe this nonsense from Gregg Keizer. Microsoft should make things clear well in advance, and they don’t. They let claims and speculation abound, and they never respond to it. I’m not going to take a company that says so little at its word, when its words are so few and far-between. That rings especially true when that company has not-infrequently gone back on that word several Xbox One matters being a big example.
Why should it be? These slides are not for you. It is for their OEM partners. You did not sit in the meeting nor is Gregg Keizer. Why should Microsoft clarify every innuendo and speculation with malice?
For what it’s worth, this author should have gone to Microsoft for clarification before publishing this article. Wonder what options we’ll have if we want to exit the insider membership and stay with the licensed RTM build on July Cuz I fresh installed on top of my licensed windows 8. Don’t worry, if you sign in with your MS account when you activate your 8.
They will automatically recognized your pc and don’t even ask you for key or to activate your Windows. Even when you install new hard drive. Only if you change your pc chipset or motherboard, you need to purchase new key. Going forward, this is how MS call life time of your devices. In another word, once you activated your windows with the note book , pc or tablet, the serial or ID of the motherboard of that device record and attach to your Windows key, and from that moment on, your Windows.
Key can only activate with the I’d or serial number of the motherboard you first activated with. I have succesfully exited one of my w8. My guess is we can just exit PCs when we want as long as they have valid windows product keys associated. However they may have just not locked down the activation process and it may still be using an insider key.
My advice, proceed with caution! It depends. If your PC is a pirated Windows 7 or 8. This is the price pirates have to pay. Windows 10 is no longer pirate but it is a always Beta version that will get the nightly builds automatically installed when your device is connected to the Internet. Also this means this version is the one that can be downloaded on July 29 so you’re lucky, you have the final version 2 weeks before everyone else.
Seriously I don’t even mind being a perpetual beta tester, I’m an insider for life I think MS has essentially ‘forgiven’ all windows pirates! I hope I can get it. I got stuck at Cant wait to get home n try! Please check that your drivers are updated. I couldn’t get past either until I did that. Mine kept freezing.
My issue was my BIOS. This new update is the running great and definately the most polished of the releases. Looking good so far. Sooooo, if I don’t already have Win10 on my computer, I can’t get this? I’m a signed up “Insider” and have the phone version running on a backup , but I never took the plunge on my main laptop. Am I locked out until general release? No, you’re are not locked out if you have an ISO of the last release.
Install it and update to For i know that won’t work because the keys are not valid anymore. I don’t have any Win10 ISOs. I want to know how is this build running on your devices now?
What is your experience of edge after this build? Is it even faster than it was in previous builds? This build is bloody fast and smooth in comparison to older builds. Edge also loads sites way faster for me now. Definitely a good one for release. Smooth, fast and without a watermark on the desktop.
Every time a new build comes out, a bunch of office updates get in the way. And the update system on windows 10 doesn’t let you choose who goes first. My case too. Th1 is waiting but those office updates Ohh I just hate this I’m on I’m getting the ‘Insider Builds settings needs attention’ thing, and cannot update Connected with my MSA.. Then tried the Store Stuff to try to bu something and didnt work.. Any Advice anyone? Battery saver might be on. Try turning pulling the battery off and connect only the charger and try again.
Maybe it works. Try to flick to slow build under advance tab, turn off and on , or restart your pc then when you back on, flick it back to fast and restart your pc again, one you log in with your MSA you just click on the update tab, this time you will be ok. Please read my comments above to others. Ate your drivers and BIOS up to date?
BIOS is serious and you want to get help if you are not experienced but i think your issue is a hardware one meaning you need to check for newer drivers. I have a Dell Inspiron and they recently updated it on their main page. Thank yourself later. Be careful with BIOS though. You might need safe mode to access it. Get help if you don’t know what your doing.
No update available for me in the Netherlands. I started downloading around and it completed installation around NL Win 10 Pro. Hey guys, i’m thinking here I want upgrade to W10 on preview, but don’t wanna loose my original key. Is possible save my key i’ve used a program to give me the key information and reinstall after? Really don’t wanna lose the original key.
Isn’t the key on the sticker? Belarc advisor should do this. I upgraded from 8. I did the upg 2 wks ago, recd build thru Windows update, then had to manually run from ISO file. After was installed, Windows update installed , currently installing Have never entered a key, but activated. I suspect and others may confirm that a clean install would require a new win 10 key.
I hope the additional surprise is that they’re finally getting the Messaging app to us :. I wish they have new messaging app but don’t thnk it is possible with the launch and MS complelety change the People app as well. Cortana seems to be offline for me in this build. Anyone else also having the same problem?
She’s online alright. Still stuck on build and windows update won’t find KB to fix finding new preview builds! Thanks, got and stuck again haha. Check you drivers! I had that same problem until today. I own a Dell Inspiron and went to my computers real website under support and had to put it in safe mode using msconfig.
Then I had to make sure the drivers was updated and after all the long hours I can’t believe it was that small if an issue. I had help because I dont know much about the hardware side.
Try that and thank yourself later. Be careful with BIOS though get help if not unsure you could mess up your computer but I believe that’s the problem! People and Store are still unfinished apps and need lots of modification. MS had these apps in Windows 8. SO why not in WIndows 10 now when it almost ready to release. If MS release these unfinsihed app then it will get bad reviews. I hope they will update these apps reguarly. Totally agree, 8.
The 10 people is just like an excel file listing names, no use whatsoever! If I wasn’t so sick of people, I’d be more upset.
But, since Facebook dropped from the people app on W8, it is nearly as feeble :. Neither are working for me. Seems metro apps failing like in 8. Sign up to join this community.
